Emotional Bernie Mac Day Brings Original Kings of Comedy to Tears

On Steve Harvey, The Original Kings of Comedy reunited for the first time since Bernie Mac's funeral in 2008, and Bernie's widow, Rhonda, was in the audience for a very special surprise. "Rhonda, I know you and Bernie were high school sweethearts," Steve Harvey said. "So, we got something to show you." A live video feed showed Mike Epps in Chicago, at the high school Rhonda and Bernie attended, where it was announced that the school's auditorium was renamed Bernie Mac Auditorium. Understandably emotional, Rhonda spoke about the overwhelming love for her late husband. "I am so touched. I am so honored, and I'm always amazed at just the outpouring of love that people still have for him, Rhonda said. "And, it just warms my heart that they remember him and love him the way they do. Thank you all so much." In the powerful moment, the comedy kings were also overcome with emotion, and that wasn't the last surprise for Bernie's family. "This is from the City of Chicago," Harvey explained. "It's actually a proclamation that says in recognition of Bernie's remarkable life and legacy, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has proclaimed today, November 14th, to be Bernie Mac Day in Chicago" Later in the show, Harvey reflected, "The Kings of Comedy set a benchmark and a precedent that allowed me to hold my head up and say, man, God gave me the life of my dreams. I'm one of the top stand-ups in the country, but I wasn't that by myself, though, I was that because of four men."
