'Star Wars' as You've Never Seen It Before — for a Galactically Charming Children's Book Trilogy

Many a Jedi has felt the power of the Force, but only Jack and Holman Wang have felted it. The Canadian brothers are the authors and fiber artists behind Star Wars: Epic Yarns, a series of three board books for young children based on the original Star Wars trilogy. Beginning with A New Hope, each book tells the movie’s story in a series of 12 images, famous scenes painstakingly re-created with felted figures and miniature sets. Each photograph is accompanied by a single baby-friendly word, ranging from “teacher” (for an image of Yoda) and “no” (as uttered by Luke in The Empire Strikes Back) to Star Wars-specific vocabulary like “lightsaber” and “droids.” The result is a snugglier version of the George Lucas’ saga, with an attention to detail that demonstrates the Wang brothers’ own passionate fandom.
