Watch Zack Snyder-esque Versions of J.D. Salinger, Jane Austen, Shel Silverstein

Say what you will about Zack Snyder, but the director of 300, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has one of the most distinctive and influential styles in modern Hollywood. Which, naturally, makes his dark, rain-soaked, slow-motion-heavy approach to storytelling ripe for parody, as in a new video above that imagines what the director might do with some beloved literary classics.

In his latest clip, Patrick H. Willems — a New York City filmmaker whose previous work includes Wes Anderson’s X-Men and Werner Herzog’s Ant-Man — gives the Snyder treatment to J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye, Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, and Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree. If you think these Snyder-ified clips are full of momentous cinematography, stormy colors, and heavy brooding, well, then you too know the hallmarks of the director’s movies. Apparently inspired by Snyder’s own comment that he’d one day like to film an adaptation of Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead, this fan-made parody is sure to appeal to those who like to poke fun at Snyder’s trademark aesthetics, though if you’re looking for a big surprise gag (other than re-envisioning Holden Caulfield as Watchmen‘s Rorschach), you’ll have to lower your expectations.

You can watch Willems’ entire tongue-in-cheek video above. As for Zack Snyder, he’ll next lend his gritty touch — albeit with some newfound humor? — to Warner Bros. and DC’s team-up saga Justice League, which lands in theaters on November 17, 2017.
