Weinstein Movies ‘August: Osage County,’ ‘Mandela’ Triumph at Capri Hollywood Festival

The Weinstein Company’s “August: Osage County” has won four awards including “‘Best Film of the Year” at the Capri Hollywood International Film Festival, which celebrated its 18th edition this year.

TWC has now won the top prize for four consecutive years thanks to “Silver Linings Playbook,” “The Artist” and “The King’s Speech.”

Oscar winners Meryl Streep won Best Actress and Chris Cooper received the festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award, while the cast, which includes Streep, Cooper, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Abigail Breslin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale, Dermot Mulroney, Julianne Nicholson, Sam Shepard and Misty Upham, won the 2013 Best Acting Ensemble of the Year Award.

“Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” won three awards including Best Actor for Idris Elba, Best Supporting Actress for Naomie Harris and Best Song for U2′s “Ordinary Love.”

Elba and Harris collected the film’s awards on Dec. 30 following its Italian premiere.

Additionally, David O. Russell was named Best Director for “American Hustle,” while he and co-writer Eric Warren Singer won Best Original Screenplay. Michael Fassbender and John Ridley won Best Supporting Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay, respectively, for “12 Years a Slave.”

The Capri Audience Award went to Disney’s “Saving Mr. Banks” and the Best Animated Feature Award went to DreamWorks Animation’s “The Croods.”

The Capri Visionary Movie Award went to director Paolo Sorrentino’s “The Great Beauty,” which received a Golden Globe nomination and is on the shortlist for a foreign language Oscar nomination.

Other awards went to Valeria Golino as European Actress of the Year and to Riccardo Scamarcio and Emily Ratajkowski (U.K.) as Capri Rising Stars.

“This year’s Festival was a huge success. We screened an amazing array of first class international movies, many of which were Italian premieres. The competition was strong in all categories, the winners are justly deserving of the honors that they have received and we congratulate them for their extraordinary contributions to the art of motion pictures. We also sincerely thank all of the producers and distributors who made their wonderful films available to us,” said Pascal Vicedomini, Capri, Hollywood founder and producer.
