Walden, Montecito Scare Up Deal For Joe Ballarini’s ‘A Babysitter’s Guide To Monsters’

EXCLUSIVE: Another day, another big material sale. Joe Ballarini has made a deal with Walden and Montecito Pictures for A Babysitter’s Guide To Monsters, a children’s book by Ballarini, best known for scriping My Little Pony. Ballarini will write the script. After closing a six-figure, three-book deal from the HarperCollins imprint Katherine Tegen Books, the film rights had several suitors circling before Walden and Montecito closed in with a mid-six-figure deal.

The book is about an apathetic babysitter who doesn’t like kids very much and is horrified to discover that the child she is sitting for has been stolen by monsters. It’s her responsibility along, with a secret society of baby sitters who do battle against the creatures of the night, to save the child and the world from things that go bump in the night.

Ballarini wrote the script for the upcoming feature adaptation of My Little Pony that is scheduled for release in 2018, and he’s also scripting the adaptation of the kids book Cardboard for Fox Animation. He sold the spec script Lockdown At Franklin High to Sony Pictures with Michael Bay producing. Paradigm and Apostle Management’s George Heller rep Ballarini.
