UTA Lands Chris Pratt: ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Star Moves From CAA With Longtime Agents

EXCLUSIVE: The first big shoe has dropped after the exit of five senior CAA comedy agents to UTA. I’m told that Chris Pratt has followed his reps Jason Heyman and Martin Lesak to UTA. When Pratt began working with those agents, he was a comedy client, a cast member on Parks And Recreation. That series has just finished its run, and now Pratt has become so much more than that. He has emerged as perhaps the brightest leading man to come along in a long time. He starred in Guardians Of The Galaxy, stars in the next Jurassic Park installment Jurassic World and he’s Steven Spielberg’s choice to anchor a revival of the Indiana Jones franchise (Spielberg hand picked Pratt for the Jurassic film, I’m told).

He’s one of the biggest names in the mix here, and it’s a real coup to UTA that they have signed him. While WME and CAA made merger moves and took on financial backing, UTA calmly positioned itself as the alternative to the behemoths, and built headquarters right off Santa Monica Blvd. that feel like a fortress of solitude compared to the digs of rival agencies. Now, that agency — which already had some fine directors like Alfonso Cuaron, Joel and Ethan Coen, Angelina Jolie and others, and stars like Johnny Depp, Ice Cube, Kevin Hart and others, have improved themselves here in a way that will allow them to package a lot of comedy projects for film and TV.
