Dutch photographer Theo Kingma has been elected the next president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn.

Kingma succeeds Aida Takla-O’Reilly, who has held the post since 2011.

Kingma had been executive secretary for two years and was on the board of directors for four years. Also elected were Lorenzo Soria as vice president, Lilly Lui as executive secretary and Meher Tatna as treasurer. Yoram Kahana was selected chairman of the board, with Vera Anderson, Luca Celada, Helen Hoehne and Takla-O’Reilly the other directors. The org has about 90 members.

Kingma’s selection in elections on Monday marks a change for the HFPA, which in recent elections has selected among those who have previously led the organization.

Takla-O’Reilly served as president from 1994 to 1996, and her predecessor, Philip Berk, also had led the organization in the 1990s. Berk ran for treasurer this year but did not prevail in the voting, according to sources from the HFPA.

While the org continues to garner impressive ratings for the Golden Globe Awards, capturing huge license fees for the annual kudocast, Takla-O’Reilly’s tenure also has been marked by contentious litigation. The HFPA lost its case against Dick Clark Prods. over rights to the Globes. The decision is being appealed. It recently settled litigation with its former publicist, Michael Russell, who claimed that members were engaged in in a kind of payola scheme in exchange for votes. The org denied the claim and filed a counter suit, claiming that he and his partner were attempting to profit off their connection to the show.

Kingma, born in Amsterdam, began his career as a projectionist. He worked as a production assistant on several films, including Robert Altman’s “Vincent & Theo,” before moving to Los Angeles in 1989. He has been a member for 20 years, and has represented publications in The Netherlands, Germany and Australia as a staff photographer. He is represented by REX Features Ltd.

Earlier this month, the HFPA named Gregory Goeckner as chief operating officer and general counsel, with oversight over finances and audits, as well as developing a budget and business plan. Goeckner is former exec VP and general counsel of the MPAA.
