According to a statement made by Sheriff Mike Waguespack to WBRZ-TV Baton Rouge, the incident occurred about 9 a.m. Monday. Guist was cruising along the Belle River when he reportedly "fell" out of his boat after having suffered what appeared to be a seizure.

Attempts at reviving Guist through CPR were unsuccessful.

A request for comment made by The Hollywood Reporter to Swamp People production company Original Media went unanswered.
