Sony Classics Takes ‘Jodorowsky’s Dune’ for North America
Sony Pictures Classics has acquired North American rights to Frank Pavich’s documentary “Jodorowsky’s Dune,” two months after the film played at the Directors Fortnight section at Cannes.
Producers are Pavich, Stephen Scarlata and Travis Stevens.
The documentary explores Alejandro Jodorowsky’s ambitious but doomed attempt to adapt Frank Herbert’s science fiction novel “Dune” in the mid 1970s.
Jodorowsky, who had directed “El Topo” and “The Holy Mountain,” was in pre-production for over two years on “Dune.” The film was to star Jodorowsky’s 12-year-old son Brontis alongside Orson Welles, Mick Jagger, David Carradine and Salvador Dali with a musical score by Pink Floyd and art design by H.R. Giger and Jean “Moebius” Giraud.
