Samsung’s stunning smartphone displays are about to get even better

Samsung desperately rushing Galaxy Note 4 to market before the iPhone 6 hits

Even though most diehard Samsung hater would have a tough time claiming that the company’s smartphones don’t come with gorgeous, eye-catching displays. PhoneArena draws our attention to a new piece in Korean publication Daum that reports Samsung has already built a display with 2K resolution and a pixel density of 556 pixels per inch, and that it’s also toying around with making a 4K display that packs a whopping 860 pixels per inch. Given that the Galaxy S4 had a display with a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch, it wouldn’t be a stretch to think that Samsung will use the 556 ppi display on the upcoming Galaxy S5. As PhoneArena notes, however, “at 500+ ppi, nobody would notice the individual pixels anyway,” so it’s not clear that a 4K smartphone display would really look all that much better than a Quad HD smartphone display.
