‘Predator’ Reboot in the Works With ‘Iron Man 3′ Director

20th Century Fox is bringing back its iconic “Predator” franchise for a reboot with “Iron Man 3″ writer-director Shane Black on board to direct.

Fox-based John Davis, who produced the original 1987 sci-fi actioner with Joel Silver and Lawrence Gordon, is producing the reboot.

Black and Fred Dekker will write the script. The duo teamed on 1987’s “Monster Squad.”

“Predator” starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers and Jesse Ventura as commandos stalked in the jungle. John McTiernan directed the film, in which Black has a small part.

“Predator” performed solidly with nearly $100 million in worldwide grosses. “Predator 2,” starring Danny Glover, took in $57 milliion in 1990; “Predators,” starring Adrien Brody and Laurence Fishburne, grossed $127 million in 2010; Fox also combined franchises with two “Alien vs. Predator” movies in 2004 and 2007.

Fox exec Matt Reilly is overseeing the latest reboot.

Besides “Iron Man 3″ and “Monster Squad,” Black’s writing credits include “Lethal Weapon,” “The Last Boy Scout,” “Last Action Hero” and “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,” which he also directed. He also developing a reboot of “The Nice Guys” and “Doc Savage” for Sony.

Black is repped by WME, GreenLit Creative and Bloom Hergott. Dekker is also repped by WME.
