Pedro Almodovar Unveils Cast For New Pic ‘Silencio’

Iconoclastic Spanish director and Oscar winner Pedro Almodovar unveiled today the cast of his new feature Silencio. The film will see Emma Suarez (The Red Squirrel) and Adriana Ugarte (3some) play the same character, Julieta, in a drama that focuses on the director’s familiar themes of destiny, guilt and what makes people abandon those they love. While Suarez previously won a Goya for The Dog In The Manger, both actresses have far lower profiles internationally than previous Almodovar muses such as Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas.

As ever, Almodovar’s brother Agustin will produce the $9.8 million project through their El Deseo production banner. “Pedro takes great pleasure in witnessing acting and it will be stimulating for him to discover the freshness of these new actors,” said Agustin Almodovar.

The film spans 30 years in Juliet’s life from a nostalgic 1985 when everything seems much better to 2015, when everything seems beyond repair and she is on the verge of madness.
