Tom Hardy Is Now The Joint Favourite To Be The Next James Bond

Tom Hardy is now one of the top favourites to take over from Daniel Craig once he relinquishes his role as James Bond.

The ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ star is now sitting at 4/1 with bookmakers William Hill, putting him level with Idris Elba.

Damien Lewis is still the one just leading the pack, however, coming in with odds of 5/2.

Hardy’s placement in the field of possible Craig replacements comes following claims from Hugh Jackman that he had been asked in the past to consider the role.

While appearing on Australian show 'The Project’, promoting his new movie 'Pan’, a fan tweeted in wondering if he’d consider the role if asked.

“I sort of have [been asked],” he said.

He said that he’s been approached by Eon, the production company behind the movies, just before Daniel Craig took on the role.

“At the time I was just about to do X-Men 2 and I was like, 'Ah, I don’t think it’s the right time’,” he said.

“But it was not an easy one to give up.”

Had he taken up the role, he’d have been the second Australian-born star to play 007, following in the footsteps of George Lazenby.

Craig is certainly mulling turning in his Walther PPK.

In an interview with Esquire, when asked whether he wanted to play the role again after SPECTRE, he replied: “At this moment, no. I have a life and I’ve got to get on with it a bit. But we’ll see.”

That’s probably just the post-wrap, pre-release promotional fatigue talking, but it’s hard to tell for sure.

Craig is said to be signed up until 2020, and the next Bond film – after SPECTRE – will be a historic 25th in the series, so he might not want to walk away just yet.

SPECTRE is due out on November 6.
