Morgan Spurlock’s Warrior Poets Teams With ABG For Strategic Brand Partnership

Morgan Spurlock, through his Warrior Poets banner, has entered into a strategic partnership with Authentic Brands Group, LLC that will see the Supersize Me director and Inside Man producer-host’s company create original content around ABG’s library of brands and properties.

The agreement will see Warrior Poets develop both scripted and unscripted projects for a variety of distribution platforms including film, television and the digital space. Among the fashion, sports, and entertainment brands and properties owned and managed by ABG are Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Muhammad Ali, Juicy Couture, Judith Leiber, Hickey Freeman, Prince, and Tapout, among many others. “For me to say we have the ability now to create programming about those icons is awesome, says Spurlock.

The partnership, resulting from discussion over the last year between Warrior Poets and ABG, is fairly open-ended with an unspecified number of projects on the horizon. Warrior Poets will have access to ABG’s IP, allowing them to develop the content with an open hand. “They’re leaving it up to us to create content and come back with ideas and take those out to networks and studios and digital partners.” Warrior Poets will also have say on picking the talent behind each project. “There are going to be projects where me writing or directing or producing makes sense,” Spurlock says, “[and]there are going to be ones where me bringing on someone smarter and more talented than me would be better.”

The initial projects to come out of the partnership will be unveiled at a future date, with the possibility of an announcement coming before the end of the 2015 holiday season. “What I think is exciting is there’s a lot of opportunity, and opportunity that’s ripe for the right production company. This is a company that presents some incredible IP, so to develop content in and around those personalities, some of the biggest icons in the history of the united States, that’s an incredible opportunity.”

Among Warrior Poets film productions are the concert documentary One Direction: This Is Us, POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, Comic-Con: Episode IV – A Fan’s Hope, Mansome, Where in the World is Osama bin Laden? and Freakonomics. Warrior Poets television projects include Morgan Spurlock Inside Man on CNN, the reality series 30 Days on FX, and Showtime’s 7 Deadly Sins. The company also produced Yahoo’s Losing It with John Stamos, Connected for AOL, and the upgoming Smartish.
