Mike Myers Lists Sophisticated Manhattan Penthouse at $17M

SELLER: Mike Myers
LOCATION: New York City, N.Y.
PRICE: $16,950,000
SIZE: 4,204 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Though Mike Myers has had a 25-plus year career and made a solid fortune as a comedian, writer and movie star with a decidedly sophomoric bent, he has what Your Mama thinks is surprisingly serious and sophisticated architectural taste, as evidenced by the duplex penthouse in lower Manhattan he made available on the open market last week with an asking price of $16,950,000. Property records and other online resources show the money-minting and Emmy-winning “Saturday Night Live” alum and “Austin Powers” film franchise star — he reportedly hauled in an estimated $82 million between March 2014 and March 2015 — acquired the quite contemporary downtown digs in late 2007 for $7,984,437.

Online marketing materials show the 4,204-square-foot loft-style condo, on a cobblestone SoHo street in an eight-unit boutique building with a 24-hour doorman, is currently configured with three bedrooms and four bathrooms. Monthly taxes and common charges tally up to more than $8,500, according to listing details. A key-lock elevator opens, somewhat unfortunately but perhaps necessarily, directly into the relatively compact dining area of the open-concept main living space on the duplex’s upper floor. The living room, furnished in listing photographs with little more than an extra-long and low-slung sectional sofa and a shaggy steel-grey rug, has a room-wide wall of floor-to-ceiling windows with an over-the-rooftops city and sky view. A raised gas fireplace with floating hearth is balanced on the opposite wall by an entire wall of open bookshelves crafted from wood that looks like and might be walnut or teak.

The kitchen has an almost extravagantly long center work island and maple and aluminum cabinetry topped with stone counters. Beyond the kitchen and central staircase, a den/media lounge has French doors that open to a step-out balcony with courtyard overlook. An adjoining bathroom and walk-in closet allow the space to be easily converted to a fourth bedroom. A staircase alongside the kitchen and set between solid glass panels that this property gossip thinks probably attract fingerprints like dog hair to velvet ascends to a glass-walled and sky-lit pavilion that gives access to a fully landscaped and irrigated, bi-level terrace that includes faux-grass underfoot, a pergola-shaded dining terrace, and open city views.

Three bedrooms on the duplex’s lower level include two guest or family bedrooms, one much larger than the other and both with en suite bathrooms and a glass door to a small, shared balcony. The master bedrooms spans the full width of the building with a wall of windows, a second gas fireplace and a pass-through walk-in closet that links the bedroom to a windowless and Thassos marble-lined bathroom with double vanity, separate tub and shower and top-grade fixtures.

We’ve not heard word about whether Mister Myers will acquire another Manhattan residence, but it’s not so far fetched to imagine he could be headed for an upgrade. Our research does indicate, however, that a bit over a year ago Mister Myers and his current wife, Kelly Tisdale, shelled out $1.65 million for a nearly 5,000-square-foot residence on a secluded bluff top above Lake Champlain in Colchester, Vermont. In six degrees of celebrity real estate separation: Mister Myers and his first wife, “Celebrity Liar” executive producer Robin Ruzan, owned a house just above the Sunset Strip that was deeded after their 2006 divorce to Miz Ruzan who eventually sold it, in late 2013, for $3.2 million to pop rock superstar Nick Jonas. The more avid celebrity real estate watchers among us may recall young Mister Jonas, now 22, soon experienced a real estate change of mind, listed the gated micro-compound earlier this year at $3.6 million and sold it late last week, according to property records, for $3.4 million.
