A+E Studios has inked a development deal with another top showrunner behind a signature A+E Networks scripted series, Vikings creator Michael Hirst. “My experience working with the History Channel on Vikings has been altogether positive, enjoyable and collaborative,” Hirst said. “I now look forward eagerly to developing more original drama with the A+E Studios very committed team. Per adua ad astra.”

Veteran Hirst, whose feature credits include the Oscar-nominated Elizabeth, is considered one of the leading historical storytellers in the industry. Hirst serves as creator and executive producer of hit drama Vikings, and has written every episode of the series. He also created, executive produced, and wrote every episode of Showtime’s The Tudors.

“Michael is an extraordinarily gifted writer and producer,” said A+E Studios EVP Barry Jossen, praising Hirst’s “distinct voice and unique vision.”

This marks A+E Studios’ second production deal. The first is with former Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse, executive producer of A&E’s flagship drama Bates Motel and the upcoming The Returned.

Hirst, who was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire in 1952 and grew up not far from “Wuthering Heights,” is repped by WME, UK’s United Agents and attorney George Davis.
