Meagan Good’s One Wish for Christmas: To Play Whitney Houston in Biopic

Almost as soon as Whitney Houston died in February 2012, the blogosphere erupted with stories that pondered who could play the famed singer in a biopic, which is considered Hollywood’s highest post-mortem tribute.

Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson, Vivica A. Fox and Houston’s “Sparkle” co-star Jordin Sparks were immediately rumored for the so-called “short-list,” but now another name has emerged and it’s a pretty “good” choice.

Veteran actress Meagan Good, who currently stars opposite Will Ferrell in “Anchorman 2,” recently told the LA Times that not only is a Whitney Houston biopic her “dream project,” but she had been discussing a potential film with the singer before her tragic death.

Houston’s close friend, record impresario Clive Davis is said to be shepherding the project, which is not officially in development at any major studio, though Tyler Perry has apparently expressed interest in directing should it ever become real.

Houston experienced incredible highs and tragic lows during her rollercoaster of a life, which would be ripe for cinematic tribute a la the Tina Turner movie “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne earned Oscar nominations for that film, and a larger-than-life personality such as Whitney’s would present an incredible dramatic opportunity for an African-American actress.

Good is a respected performer who has displayed solid chops in Malcolm D. Lee’s comedy “Roll Bounce,” Salim Akil’s wedding comedy “Jumping the Broom” and on Showtime’s ”Californication.” This past year, she  also starred in NBC’s short-lived drama “Deception,” opposite Victor Garber and Tate Donovan.

We’ll keep you posted should anything develop further, but for now, try to imagine Good as Houston. If there’s someone else you’d like to see play the late singer, let us know in the comments section below.
