Kangana Ranaut wants to experience true love

Kangana Ranaut would tell you she is still waiting to savour true love in life. “It is something I want to experience like anyone else. As of now, I have failed to find true love,” she says with a grin.

That is not keeping her from being in a happy state, though the idea would seem ironic if you consider she is all set to give romance a new twist in her upcoming film, Katti Batti. She is in town promoting the along with her co-star Imran Khan.

She finds it easier to define the film than true love. “Katti Batti is a romantic thriller,” she says, somewhat surprising you because the promos all along have made it look like a romcom. “Ideally, I would have wanted the promos to show glimpses of the darker side of the film. But promotion of the film is up to the marketing team. They know what is best. May be, they felt the heavier text should come across as a surprise factor when the film opens.”

Kangana terms her role of Payal in the Nikhil Advani film as an “intense one that demanded a lot as a performer”.

“Payal has seen tragedy at an early age. She is a girl who plans life a certain way, but things go wrong. Why this happens constitutes the film’s intrigue factor,” she says.

The second National Award last year for Queen has made life easier, she admits.

“Perceptions change with success. When you are successful, people are nicer to you. I have learnt it the harsh way. Life becomes easier. It is not just about the film industry. This happens everywhere,” she says.

Her co-star Imran, meanwhile, is more chilled out in her presence. He would tell you returning after a few duds in a film that lets its heroine hog all limelight is no big deal.

“Why would I complain? I am getting to work with talented people?” the actor laughs. He calls his character, Maddy, “a plain vanilla guy, one of the thousands you see on the streets”.

For Imran, imbibing the role was all about understanding Kangana’s Payal. “The thing about Maddy is his defining characteristic is his love for Payal. He seems to have no other ability but harbour a deep affection for her. The entire film is about Maddy reconstructing his broken relationship with Payal, about searching for the answers,” he says.
