Jon M. Chu in Talks to Direct ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Adaptation
“Now You See Me 2” director Jon M. Chu is in negotiations to direct “Crazy Rich Asians” for Nina Jacobson’s Color Force and Ivanhoe Pictures.
The project is an adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s 2013 book, which centers on the heir of a massive fortune who brings his American-born Chinese girlfriend to Singapore for a wedding. Jacobson, Brad Simpson and John Penotti are producing while Kwan will executive produce.
Color Force, best known for producing “The Hunger Games” franchise, obtained the film rights to Kwan’s debut novel in 2013.
Chu recently signed on to return to helm “Now You See Me 3.”
Besides “Now You See Me 2,” Chu’s directing credits include “Step Up 2: The Streets,” “Step Up 3D,” “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” and “G.I. Joe: Retaliation.” “Now You See Me 2” opens on June 10 from Lionsgate.
Chu is represented by WME and Principato Young. The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
