Jim Carrey Sued by Cathriona White’s Mother for Wrongful Death
Jim Carrey has another lawsuit on his hands.
Brigid Sweetman, the mother of Carrey's late girlfriend, Cathriona White, filed a lawsuit on Tuesday in the Los Angeles Superior Court claiming that the 54-year-old actor played a role in her daughter's death.

Sweetman's lawsuit mirrors claims by White's estranged husband, Mark Burton, which allege that Carrey knowingly gave White three sexually transmitted diseases and then lied to her about testing positive. The court documents claim that when White confronted Carrey about the STDs, he immediately broke up with her and refused to communicate, showing a complete disregard for her emotional well-being. Carrey and his attorney have feverishly denied these allegations, calling them "desperate, bogus claims."
The lawsuit also alleges that Carrey obtained "highly addictive" illegal drugs under the false name "Arthur King" and provided prescription drugs to White, knowing that she was prone to depression and had previously attempted to take her own life. "The result that followed was predictable and foreseeable," the court documents state.
White, 30, was found dead in her home on Sept. 28, 1015 following a drug overdose. A toxicology report found four prescription drugs in her system: a mix of painkillers, beta blockers and a sleep aid. Her death was ruled a suicide in July of this year.

Both Sweetman's and Burton's lawsuits are asking for an unspecified amount of damages for the same complaints, which include the violation of the drug dealer liability act and wrongful death, and filed the same exhibits: copies of alleged text messages between Carrey and White, and a handwritten letter from White to Carrey.
"Jim Carrey should be ashamed of what he did to my daughter. And he should be ashamed for how he has used his Hollywood attorneys to badmouth Cat's husband Mark with the hope that nobody will hold him responsible for what he did," Sweetman -- represented by Michael Avenatti, the same attorney representing Burton's case -- said in a statement obtained by ET.
"As a family, we want the world to know the truth about who Jim Carrey really is -- a man that will give your daughter three STDs, lie about it, call her terrible names and demean her, use his high priced lawyers to try and shut her and her family up, and then give her illegal drugs," she continued. "Every mother and father that has a daughter should read Cat's handwritten letter to Jim and decide for themselves what kind of a guy he really is."
On Tuesday, Carrey's lawyer, Marty Singer, issued a statement to ET saying that Sweetman was heading down a "dark path."
"It is understandable that a mother who has lost a daughter will look for someone to blame. But in directing her grief and rage at Jim Carrey and joining this ridiculous lawyer's attempt to capitalize on Cathriona's suicide, Mrs. Sweetman is heading down the same dark path as Cathriona's green-card 'husband,' Mark Burton," Singer stated, before alleging that White and Sweetman had a "contentious relationship."
"On her 30th birthday, just a few days before her suicide, Cathriona White was distraught having received a message from her mother through Facebook that was so destructive and demoralizing that she instantly deleted her Facebook account so her mother could no longer have contact with her," he continued. "Cathriona often lamented about her contentious relationship with her mother, how she was forced to leave home at the age of 15, and how they had been estranged for years."
In November 2015, Sweetman told People that while she admits she and White didn't always see eye to eye, she was "devastated" by the "unbelievably cruel" reports that she had sent her daughter mean-spirited messages which contributed to her suicide. Sweetman also said she had met Carrey at her daughter's funeral, and described him as "a very nice man."
