Jennifer Lawrence Won't Play Mystique Again After 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

Fans of Jennifer Lawrence's work as the sexy, deadly blue mutant Mystique in the X-Men franchise are not going to be happy.

Rumors that the 24-year-old Oscar-winner would be quitting the series after the up-coming X-Men: Apocalypse are apparently true.

"It is my last one, yes." Lawrence confirmed to MTV News at the premiere of her upcoming drama Serena.

Lawrence didn't reveal why she wouldn't be continuing with the series, leaving fans to wonder if the shape-shifter might be meeting her doom in the upcoming film or if Lawrence is simply tired of donning the blue make-up and latex prosthetics.

The direction the franchise seems to be heading is toward a cast of younger mutants. Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner and Alexandra Shipp are taking on the roles of Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse, and this could spell the end for young Magneto (Michael Fassbender), young Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) and even Mystique.

So what will this mean for the franchise? It's hard to say. After all, it's scientifically proven that everything is better with more Jennifer Lawrence. But this could give her a chance to make more films with David O. Russell, and that's always a good thing for her and for audiences.

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters May 27, 2016.
