Jeffrey Dean Morgan Joins ‘The Good Wife’ As New Regular

Meet Kalinda’s replacement. Jeffrey Dean Morgan will join The Good Wife as a series regular for the CBS drama’s upcoming seventh season. He will play Alex, a calm, experienced hourly investigator whom Alicia (Julianna Margulies) hires.

The Good Wife, from CBS TV Studios, ended Season 6 with two vacancies in its regular cast after the departures of original cast member and fan favorite Archie Panjabi, who played intrepid investigator Kalinda Sharma, and recent addition Matthew Goode, who stepped down after a year as a regular. Morgan already is in the CBS/CBS Studios family: He is a regular on their summer drama series Extant, which he joined in the current second season as the male lead opposite Halle Berry. Extant got off to a slow Season 2 start but Morgan could in theory juggle both series as he remains a regular on Extant. (That show only films 13 episodes a year.)

On The Good Wife, which returns with originals on October 4, he joins fellow regulars Margulies, Christine Baranski, Matt Czuchry, Alan Cumming and Zach Grenier.

“We’ve loved and admired Jeffrey Dean Morgan for years, and we were thrilled to hear that Julianna did too, so it was a no-brainer to ask him to join our troupe,” said The Good Wife creators/executive producers Robert and Michelle King.

Morgan also recently starred in the History miniseries Texas Rising and toplined Starz’s period drama series Magic City.
