‘Home’, ‘Get Hard’ Lower In Weekend Actuals, But Still Hold Their Records – Box Office

Most of the weekend actuals in the top 10 were down from their Sunday estimates with the exception of Christian drama Do You Believe? which made about $150K more than expected with $2.3M. Also, The Gunman came in on target with $2M in 10th. However, the lower figures didn’t throw off the records that DreamWorks/20th Century Fox’s Home and Warner Bros. Get Hard set yesterday. With $52.1M, off 3.5% from its $54M Sunday estimate, Home is still the best bow for DWA during its distrib tenure with Fox over the last two years. Home also remains the third best DWA non-sequel opener after Kung-Fu Panda ($60.2M) and Monsters vs. Aliens ($59.3M).

In addition, Get Hard with $33.8M, off 2.3% from its $34.6M projection yesterday, remains the top R-rated bow for comedic thesps Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell. Despite the discrepancy between both films’ demos — Home attracting mostly families and females (60%) and Get Hard older men (54% guys, 61% under 25) –the similarity between the two stemmed from how hard each film’s stars engaged their fanbase to make sure they showed up on opening weekend.

Total weekend B.O. for the 13th weekend of the year also came in lower per Rentrak Theatrical: $149.8M vs. yesterday’s estimate of $152M.
