The Hollywood Reporter's Offices Evacuated Over Suspicious Powder

The Hollywood Reporter said it evacuated its Los Angeles office on Monday morning after the magazine received an envelope containing an unidentified white powder, a Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman told TheWrap.

Guggenheim Digital Media CEO Ross Levinsohn emailed all employees in the mid-Wilshire office instructing them to head to the building's courtyard while Los Angeles police officials investigated the letter, THR said.

"We don't know that the whole building was evacuated," officer Norma Eisenman, a Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman, told TheWrap.

Eisenman said the emergency call came in at 9:47 a.m. PT and LAPD and Los Angeles Fire Department hazmat teams were dispatched immediately.

At 11:29 a.m. PT, THR.com editor Chris Krewson tweeted that the staff had returned to the building.

"OK, we're back in the office - substance was determined to be non-hazardous," he said. "Back to post-Oscar planning."

White powder in mail has been viewed with particular fear and suspicion since the 2001 anthrax attacks, just a week after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
