"Hermano Puli" biopic to begin filming soon

The Aljur Abrenica-starrer is set to begin filming following previous postponement

1 Dec - Following the previous postponement that caused the movie to be pulled from the 2015 Metro Manila Film festival entry, it was reported that Aljur Abrenica-starrer, "Hermano Puli", is set to begin filming soon.

As reported on PEP News, last week, a press conference was held in Quezon City to introduce the finalised cast members of the upcoming indie movie, now titled, "Ang Hapis at Hinagpis ni Hermano Puli" (loosely translated as "The Sorrow and Grief of Hermano Puli").

Aside from Abrenica, who has been cast to play the titular role earlier on, the movie will also star Louis Delos Reyes, who has worked with the actor in GMA modern fantasy series, "Kambal Sirena", in 2014.

The movie, to be directed by Gil Portes, tells the story of Apolinario de la Cruz, also known as Hermano Pule (or Puli), who founded the Confraternity of St. Joseph and led a major revolt against the Spanish rule of the Philippines in the 19th century.

It is slated for release in 2016.

The movie previously had to delay its production due to lack of funding.
