Leah Remini, a former Scientologist who famously left the church in 2013, has applauded the filmmakers behind Going Clear, the HBO documentary that examines the Church of Scientology.

"Thank you to the brave who did something about it. And to those who didn't have a voice, you do now," the actress tweeted Sunday, the night the documentary premiere on HBO.

The two-hour film from Alex Gibney exposes the controversial religion and its connection to Hollywood. Interviews from several former members, including actor Jason Beghe and director Paul Haggis, detail the blackmail and threats they received while members. On Monday, the church released a statement calling the film "ludicrous" and full of "made-up claims."

Remini has never been shy about her decision to leave the church. The actress began questioning David Miscavige's leadership and the church's policies around the time her daughter was approaching the age where children begin the auditing process.
