eOne In Multi-Territory Deal On Reese Witherspoon-Starrer ‘The Good Lie’

Toronto/London/Berlin – February 7, 2013 –Entertainment One (“eOne”) is pleased to announce that it has secured multi-territory rights in all media to the upcoming drama The Good Lie, starring Reese Witherspoon. eOne will handle distribution of the film in the UK, Spain, Benelux and Australia/NZ. Lionsgate International represented the international rights to the film on behalf of the film’s producers.

From celebrated Canadian director Philippe Falardeau (Monsieur Lazhar), The Good Lie tells the story of a young refugee of the Sudanese Civil War who wins a lottery for relocation to the United States with three other lost boys. They develop an unlikely friendship with a brash American woman (Witherspoon) assigned to help them, but the young man struggles to adjust to his new life and his feelings of guilt about the brother he left behind.

“We are pleased to see that our friends at eOne are already realizing the benefits of their recent corporate acquisition. Having them take multiple territory rights for what is designed to be a powerful and important film is a benefit to all parties,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairman, Patrick Wachsberger.

Written by Margaret Nagle (Boardwalk Empire), industry-toppers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer serve as producers on the film along with Molly Smith and Karen Kahela Sherwood. The film is executive produced by Kim Roth and Deepak Nayar.

The deal was negotiated by eOne’s worldwide acquisitions lead Lara Thompson, EVP, Filmed Entertainment for eOne.

“We’re delighted to add The Good Lie to the slate in four of eOne’e core territories. The talent attached to the film, including the universally-adored Reese Witherspoon, made this a film we just had to get our hands on. What a great start to Berlin,” said Thompson. “As eOne grows, it’s incredibly exciting to be able to bring more and more to the table. Not only have we increased our presence in Canada and the UK, but we recently added Spain. The expertise on the ground around the world that we can now offer to our partners truly sets us apart.”
