Disney Unveils ‘Moana’ Details After Tease At Comic-Con

Voice artist Alan Tudyk teased it at Comic-Con, and now Disney Animation Studios is giving details: It’s releasing images and voice cast from its latest animated feature Moana, which is slated to bow during the family-friendly Thanksgiving frame. Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin), the film is about the life-changing journey of a tenacious 16-year-old who teams up with the mighty demigod Maui to fulfill an ancient quest.

The newly revealed characters and voice talent join the already announced duo of newcomer Auli‘i Cravalho as the title character, who dreams of becoming a master wayfinder, and Dwayne Johnson as Maui — half god, half mortal.

Tudyk, whose voice credits include Zootopia, Wreck-It Ralph, and Big Hero 6, will be portray HeiHei the village idiot rooster who unwittingly ends up on an adventure. Joining him will be Jemaine Clement (The BFG, Despicable Me) who will give voice to a character named Tamatoa, described as “a self-absorbed, 50-foot crab … who wants to be more than a ‘bottom feeder’ and overcompensates for this perceived shortcoming by covering himself in all things shiny; Rachel House (Whale Rider, Hunt for the Wilderpeople), who plays Moana’s independent and quirky Gramma Tala; Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Once Were Warriors) voices Moana’s father, Chief Tui, a gregarious and well-respected leader of the people; and Nicole Scherzinger, the Grammy-nominated singer of the West End’s Cats will voice Moana’s playful and strong-willed mother, Sina.
