‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Movie Lands At Warner Bros

Warner Bros has given the greenlight to Crazy Rich Asians, an adaptation of the bestselling book by Kevin Kwan to be produced by Color Force and Ivanhoe Pictures. John M Chu (Now You See Me 2) is set to direct a script by Pete Chiarelli and Adele Lim. A spring 2017 production start is being eyed in Singapore with a fully Asian cast planned — a first for a Hollywood studio.

The first book in a trilogy centered on an American-born Chinese economics professor and boyfriend and took an incisive and comical look at the extended families of high society in Asia, offering a bracing exploration of the cultural differences among Asians of Chinese descent around the globe.

Kwan’s first book published in 2013 has nearly 1 million copies in print worldwide; the third novel Rich People Problems is set to street in summer 2017 from Doubleday.
