COLCOA Unveils Short Films Competition
PARIS– COLCOA, the Los Angeles film festival dedicated to French cinema, has unveiled its lineup of 20 Gallic shorts set to compete at the upcoming 19th edition.
Taking place from April 20-28 at the Directors Guild of America, COLCOA will showcase a short before each film presentation, while the entire shorts competition will be hosted on April 27.
The roster includes Ben Adler’s “Coach,” produced by recently launched Fluxus Films; “Smart Monkey,” directed by Nicolas Pawlowski and Winshluss and produced by Je Suis Bien Content, the shingle behind “Persepolis”; “Struck” (“Foudroyés”), directed by Bibo Bergeron, whose credits include “Shark Tale” and “A Monster in Paris”; and Alexis Michalik’s “Grounded” (“Au Sol”), produced by up-and-coming French companies Mon Voisin Productions and Fulldawa Films. Nolita Cinema will present two shorts inspired by Boris Vian’s novels, “Notre Faust,” directed by Elsa Blayau and Chloé Larouchi, and “The Hitchhiker” (“L’Autostoppeur”), directed by Julien Paolini.
“This selection of new shorts underscores the dynamism of the French film industry and is aimed at turning the spotlight on emerging talent,” said Francois Truffart, COLCOA’s artistic director, who will announce the feature films’ competition slate on March 31.
In 2014, the COLCOA Short Film Award went to Jean-Bernard Marlin’s “The Run Away.” Meanwhile, another short film that competed at last year’s edition, Wei Hu’s “The Butter Lamp,” went on to earn an Oscar nomination.
As part of its partnership with TV5 Monde, some of the titles presented at COLCOA will be available to subscribers of TV5 Monde Cinema On Demand in the U.S.
