Clive Davis Snags Units at Gotham’s Ritz Tower

As was first reported in the New York property gossip columns, octogenarian music-industry legend Clive Davis recently spent just over $3.4 million for a pair of midfloor co-operative apartments at New York City’s ultra-luxe Ritz Tower on Park Avenue, where residents pay super-sized monthly fees for five-star hotel amenities such as daily maid service. Each of the units, one right on top of the other, were both configured at the time of their sale with two bedrooms and two bathrooms in about 1,250 square feet. They were purchased in concurrent but separate transactions — the lower unit traded for $1.925 million and the one directly above it for $1.475 million. Together, they carry hefty monthly maintenance charges of $10,370, per listing details. Brokers were Shelly Wu and Gina Sabio of Town Residential.

Our exhaustive if unscientific research reveals the two co-ops are hardly the only apartments at the Ritz Tower currently and previously owned by the quintuple-Grammy-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, who famously steered the careers of music industry supernovas like Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys and Kelly Clarkson. Indeed, property records show the admittedly bisexual music mogul owns two units on the prewar tower’s uppermost floors, as well as a small unit on the 14th floor and another modest apartment on the fifth floor. Davis did own a well-appointed, two-unit combination unit on the 29th floor that property records suggest he surreptitiously dumped in the latter days of 2012 for $2.7 million.

In addition to his half dozen co-ops at the Ritz, the Brooklyn-born music industry game-changer’s extensive real estate holdings include a 4,375-square-foot condominium with six bedrooms and six bathrooms at the twin-towered Rushmore complex near Lincoln Square on the Upper West Side, bought in September 2011 for nearly $6 million, as well as a bucolic, 12.55-acre multi-residence compound in Westchester County’s posh Pound Ridge community, about 45 miles northeast of the Ritz Tower.
