Best Christmas Romantic Comedies of the 2000s

Yahoo Contributor Network

Christmas is a time for being together with family, loved ones, and significant others. No matter your schedule, how busy you are with work, or anything else that could get in the way, spending time with those you love is the way to spend Christmas. So what better way to encapsulate that sentiment than to make a movie that features it -- and makes light of it?

Let's take a look at some of the best Christmas romantic comedies made in recent years:

"Love Actually" (2003)

This holiday movie revolves around eight people and their quest to find love during the holidays. There are times to laugh, cry, and cry while laughing. All of the people learn the ultimate lesson; The holidays are about being with those you love, and nothing will be able to take love's place. Of all the movies on this list, "Love Actually" is probably one of the most popular and highly acclaimed.

"The Family Stone" (2005)

The Stone family is preparing for its annual Christmas gathering. Their eldest son brings home his girlfriend to meet the family. She is uptight, cold, and not welcomed by the family with the most warm feelings. Before it's all over, secrets are revealed and relationships are tested, but it is through love that the Stones survive.

This movie really shows how easily a family can break down and bounce right back. It also serves as an example of what the holidays are truly about: being a loving family unit. It doesn't happen without some laughs along the way, of course; after all, it is a romantic-comedy.

"The Holiday" (2006)

Two women are exactly in the same place in their love lives -- failing to have an adequate one. Only problem is they live 6,000 miles apart. However, through a home exchange, the two women switch lives and it is in their new homes that they find people who make them feel alive again.

This story, while it may seem like a chick-flick, is really a great romantic comedy that takes place around Christmas time. There are plenty of laughs, a renewal of spirits, and the feeling of how a new place can make someone feel completely rejuvenated.

"Four Christmases" (2008)

A couple who usually avoids their families at Christmastime find themselves grounded at the airport when all flights are canceled. The news is there to cover the story, and they are busted by their families when they are caught on camera. Now they must get through the holidays with their crazy, unbalanced, wacky families.

This is probably one of my favorites on the list. Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon make a great comedic pair while displaying throughout the movie their love for one another. "Four Christmases" is full of Christmas cheer, laughs, and awkward family moments. It is a definite "must-watch" Christmas movie.
