BAFTA Keeps Awards Ceremony Ahead of Oscars in 2014

LONDON -- The British Academy of Film and Television Arts said next year’s EE British Academy Film Awards will take place February 16, 2014 -- again just weeks before the Oscars.

The British Academy's date pick follows Monday's announcement from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that the 2014 Oscars will be moved out of its February slot and into March, as the Winter Olympics closing ceremony will take place on the last Sunday of February 2014.

Despite the one-week delay for the EE British Academy Film Awards ceremony, the event will still take place in the middle of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia which runs February 7 through 23.

More importantly for Hollywood, the one-week British awards show shift in lockstep with the U.S. means the interval between the two will be maintained, giving industry attendees plenty of time to prep between the big black-tie shows -- and after-parties.

BAFTA said it has not yet fixed its nominations date, which this year was one day before the Oscar nominations.

Oscar nominations will be trumpeted January 16, 2014.
