AP PHOTOS: OJ Simpson testifies in new trial bid
LAS VEGAS (AP) — O.J. Simpson didn't testify at his infamous murder trial. And he declined a chance to testify when he was tried for a bungled attempt to retrieve personal items and memorabilia.
Now, after more than four years in prison, Simpson has taken the witness stand to explain why he deserves a new trial for the 2007 robbery and kidnapping of two sports memorabilia dealers. He spent about five hours on the stand Wednesday, answering questions from his new attorney and a prosecutor.
Dressed in a drab blue prison uniform, Simpson spoke clearly as he recounted events leading to the hotel room where dealers had the memorabilia. His voice cracked a bit as he recounted recognizing items on the bed, including framed photos that used to hang on the wall of his Los Angeles home.
The 65-year-old is serving a term of nine to 33 years in prison in the armed robbery-kidnapping case.
