Sales and finance company Sierra/Affinity has picked up international sales rights in certain territories for Paramount’s Denzel Washington-starrer Flight and the upcoming Michael Bay-directed Pain And Gain, the companies announced today at the American Film Market. Sierra/Affinity is handing select territories for Flight, which opens domestically today, The company also will sell to Spain and the CIS region for the crime thriller Pain And Gain, which opens in the U.S. on April 26. Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Ed Harris star….

Image Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to the sci-fi thriller Stranded starring Christian Slater. Roger Christian directed the pic produced by Minds Eye Entertainment in association with Moving Pictures Media. Kevin DeWalt, Mark Montague and Isabella Battiston produced the movie, about four astronauts on a moonbase who are struck by meteors with spores that can replicate, and soon a presence on board begins to target them. Brendan Fehr, Amy Matysio and Michael Therriault co-star….

Digital Media has acquired digital and TV rights to Samsara, the documentary from Baraka filmmakers Mark Magidson and Ron Fricke. The film has grossed more than $2 million at the domestic box office since its opening August 31 via Oscilloscope Pictures, making it the distributor’s most successful release to date. Filmed over a period of almost five years in 25 countries, the dialogue-free docu looks at sacred grounds, disaster zones, industrial sites, and natural wonders. Freestyle will release the film on VOD beginning January 8….

Relativity Media has closed a new foreign output deal with leading Thailand distributor Sahamongkol Film International to oversee the distribution of Relativity’s feature films in Thailand through 2015. The slate includes the upcoming Movie 43, Safe Haven, 21 and Over, Malavita and Turkeys. It also renewed output deals with distributors from Turkey, Middle East and Eastern Europe….

Content Media Corp announced that they have inked a deal to establish a new film, television and digital production and development company in partnership with Preferred Content, with Preferred founders Ross M. Dinerstein and Kevin Iwashina overseeing day-to-day operations at the joint venture working closely with Content Film’s Jamie Carmichael. Preferred Film & TV will produce content of all genres with a commitment to quality projects with both established and emerging filmmakers. The first film from the new entity is the supernatural thriller Mr. Jones, starring Jon Foster and Sarah Jones and written and directed by The Divide co-writer Karl Mueller, now showing at the market. Content and Preferred will continue to independently manage their international and domestic sales businesses….

XLrator Media has acquired U.S. rights to the dark horror comedy Inbred from Darclight Films, the genre arm of Arclight Films. Jo Hartley, James Doherty, Seamus O’Neill and James Burrows star in the story of four young urban offenders and their care workers as they embark on a community service weekend in the strange, remote Yorkshire village of Mortlake. A minor incident with some local inbred youths escalates into a blood-soaked, deliriously warped nightmare for all involved. Alex Chandon directed and co-wrote with Paul Shrimpton. The film played the After Dark section this year at the Toronto Film Festival….

The Global Media Group has the documentary AKA Private to its film slate at the market. It looks at the lives of Hollywood actors, aspiring and established, and examines the tragic, less glamorous side of their lives. Interviewees include ex-teen pop star Gary Private, Ron Jeremy, Frank Stallone boxer Ray Mancini, and Anthony Quinn’s son Francesco. Brett Rosenberg directed and produced, and Private co-produced….

State-run Russia film promotion group Roskino and Gravitas Ventures announced the exclusive availability of 12 Russian films on Hulu and the Hulu Plus subscription service beginning next month. As part of the deal, future titles will be introduced soon after their Russian theatrical release or international film festival debuts….

Anchor Bay Entertainment Canada and Three Little Birds Prods will release the horror pic Among Friends in the Canadian home entertainment market in 2013. Scream queen Danielle Harris’ directorial debut is the story of a group of friends who get together for a murder mystery party, and things take a dark turn when one hijacks the evening and is out for blood. Stealth Media Group is selling the zombie-war thriller Dead Sand and has announced a March production start in Morocco. Bernie Stern and Jay Thames are producing via their 77 Films banner, with Stealth production arm Spice Factory a producing partner. Toby Wilkins will direct; the cast has not been announced. The pic, about a team of Special Forces who are assigned to capture and transport an escaped terrorist but are ambushed by a nest of tactically advanced zombies, was written by West Point grad and Army Rangers captain Max Adams and Green Beret Brian Anthony….

Grindstone Entertainment Group has acquired AJK Films’ Blaze You Out for North America to be released by Lionsgate Home Entertainment. Mateo Frazier and Diego Joaquin Lopez directed the pic, about an unyielding young woman who ventures into the ruthless underworld of her town’s heroin trade in order to save her younger sister’s life. Elizabeth Peña, Veronica Diaz-Carranza, Melissa Cordero, Mark Adair Rios, Jeremy Ray Valdez, Q’orianka Kilcher and Raoul Trujillo star. Grindstone is handling U.S. and Canadian rights; 6 Sales is selling international.
