TIFF 2013: Best and worst looks from the TIFF red carpet

The stars pulled out all the stops this week at TIFF, diving into some of the season's hottest trends, but not everyone managed to dress with equal success. Let's take a look at our top three best and worst looks from the red carpet.

Best: Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock came away from TIFF a big winner. She's being praised by critics for her performance in "Gravity" and every single outfit she stepped out in was on-point, our favourite being this strapless Narciso Rodriguez dress. We've seen lots of colour-blocking before, but this design also incorporates fabric-blocking with that soft panel of satin and the upward chevron shape is super flattering. The look was clean and minimal, with just a few skinny bracelets and a sleek straight hairdo, parted down the middle.

Best: Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley floated onto the red carpet for "Can A Song Save Your Life" on Saturday, Sept. 7 like a watercolour painting. She wore a printed frock by Mary Katratzou, who is a fellow Brit and hugely responsible for this season's print craze. The dreamy woodland landscape in this design is so pretty, especially with the purple and green pastel shades that Keira thoughtfully brought up into her makeup palette, as well. Plus she explored the trendiest length of the season, that mid-calf hemline.

Best: Julia Roberts

We love the fact that Julia showed off her greatest assets in this mini dress by Dolce & Gabbana while walking the red carpet for the "August: Osage County" premiere on Monday, Sept. 9. Those long legs are still the hottest pair in Hollywood and combined with sky high nude pumps, they've never looked better. With the flared hemline, bell-sleeves and red colouring, this look had a real Spanish flair and she accented that with a loose updo and gold earrings. The best accessory Julia brought to TIFF, however, is her confidence—when she steps on to the red carpet, you know you are in the presence of a movie star.

Worst: Maria Bello

Maybe we missed the memo, but when did turtlenecks become cool again? For some reason Maria Bello wore several of them over the past week, but none were more offensive than this navy blue version with skater-chic thumb holes she wore to the "Prisoners" premiere on Friday, Sept. 6.

Worst: Jessica Chastain

Every once in a while Jessica surprises us with a great dress pick, but more often than not we struggle to understand her style. The pale blue and black Dolce & Gabbana dress she wore to the InStyle party on Monday, Sept. 9 is a great example of our confusion. We get what she's trying to do with the black figure outline, but the fabric and shape are not great. And fit is always her greatest issue.

Worst: Jennifer Garner

Jennifer Garner went for Dolce & Gabbana lace, as well, but in a wimpy way. Instead of being bold with her look, she only hints at sexy at the premiere for "Dallas Buyer's Club" on Saturday, Sept. 7. There is the illusion of a red strapless dress, but two thick panels of nude satin that make this dress look more mother of the bride than red carpet worthy.
