Okay ... maybe it's really not going to be about Buck Rogers?

For weeks now Brad Bird's upcoming live-action feature, "Tomorrowland," has had everyone buzzing about what it could be about, especially since it's named after one of the most popular Disney theme lands.

Initially, the flick was going under the title "1952," and all we really knew was that George Clooney was starring in it. Things took an interesting turn in late January when the filmmakers posted a photograph of a <a href="https://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/brad-bird-top-secret-1952-going-walt-disney-195549893.html">suitcase</a> discovered by co-screenwriter Damon Lindelof on the Disney lot that apparently kickstarted the entire project. Inside the case were pictures of Walt Disney himself, which seemed to fuel an earlier theory that the film was going to be a biopic of the world-famous entrepreneur (Disneyland opened its doors in 1955), while a copy of a 1928 issue of "Amazing Stories" magazine hinted at a possible Buck Rogers adaptation.

A week later, the project's real title was revealed: <a href="https://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/brad-bird-top-secret-1952-rats-itself-revealing-215559665.html">"Tomorrowland,"</a> which had us thinking the film might be a fictional spin on one of Disney's own theme park attractions, like "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "The Haunted Mansion." Our guess was that Clooney would be playing a P.T. Barnum-esque showman and inventor who presides over an amusement park that incorporates ahead-of-its-time (perhaps alien!) technology.

Now, a new rumor kind of takes our theory, knocks it around and twists it up a bit ... and adds a cute robot. Drew McWeeny of <a href="http://www.hitfix.com/motion-captured/we-peek-at-the-secrets-of-brad-birds-tomorrowland-and-discuss-real-versus-fake-spoilers">HitFix</a> has come across what might (or might not) be the official synopsis of "Tomorrowland":

"A teenage girl, a genius middle-aged man (who was kicked out of Tomorrowland) and a pre-pubescent girl robot attempt to get to and unravel what happened to Tomorrowland, which exists in an alternative dimension, in order to save Earth."

McWeeny describes the (possible) rather convoluted plot further:

"There's interdimensional travel, human-looking robots, and a quest for revenge … [as well as the hero] rediscovering the kid he used to be."

Well ... that certainly sounds like a Disney movie, doesn't it?

But is it the Disney movie that's actually being made? To be honest, we kind of hope not, because as nifty as that premise sounds, it doesn't seem like the kind of movie that, well, deserves to be kept such a secret. Dare we hope for something with a little less whizz-bang whimsy and a little more gravitas? Come on, Brad, you've got George Clooney starring in this thing, not Johnny Depp!

Stay tuned, as we're sure there will be plenty more "Tomorrowland" rumors between now and when the film hits theaters on December 19, 2014
