Roger Ebert was, for many, the be-all, end-all authority on film criticism. Many would see a movie based on his approval and many would steer clear of something he panned (and oh, could he pan something -- he summarized his feelings for the whimsical Elijah Wood/Bruce Willis adventure "North" with "I hated this movie. Hated hated hated hated hated this movie. Hated it."). He led us to some of our all-time favorites and saved us from the torture of sitting through some of Hollywood's rock-bottom disasters.
However, Ebert was anything but a predictable critic. Sometimes he saw something in a film that everyone else missed and became its number-one fan. Other times he'd give a rather passionate thumbs-down to a film you might consider to be one of your all-time favorites. As there is often no accounting for taste -- even for the most popular and respected film critic on the planet -- here are five films that Roger Ebert gave a little more love than expected and five films he surprisingly just didn't like.
