Ever wonder what happened to Urkel, the nerd next door on "Family Matters"? That actor, Jaleel White, is back, playing a nerdy teacher in the summer movie "Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer."

The child star totally stole the show on the sitcom, which ran from 1989 to 1997. What started as a bit part soon became the focus of the family comedy. Fans adored the lovable dork, who sported thick-framed glasses and pants pulled up to his waist.

The multitalented young actor even played alter ego Stefan Urkquelle and his girl cousin Myrtle Urkel, which he did in drag.

White has showed up in other acting gigs over the years, as the voice of Sonic in "Sonic the Hedgehog" and in the TV series "Fake It Till You Make It."

And now, the 34-year-old is appearing in the kid-friendly movie "Judy Moody." The flick, based on the book series, stars Australian newcomer Jordana Beatty. The story follows the 13-year-old as she plots out a "thrilling" summer vacation.

As Judy Moody's teacher Mr. Todd, White has a familiar face, even if the kid is now a grownup. The trademark glasses are still there but look stylish, not comic. The jeans have migrated down to the hips from the high-waters Urkel once wore. The character does seem to channel the geeky Urkel just a little: What teacher gives a pop quiz on the last day of school?

Then there's the delivery: The actor tells Entertainment Weekly he got some strange advice: ''[Director] John Schultz told me to try to be part Richard Pryor and part Mister Rogers. I don't know what the heck that is even now, and I already completed the role.''
