Angelina Jolie is Maleficent (first photo)

Our first look at Angelina Jolie as Sleeping Beauty's nemesis, Maleficent, evokes an over-the-top style reminiscent of Lady Gaga.

Taking the title role in Disney's upcoming film, "Maleficent," Jolie sports bright yellow eyes (likely contacts), unnaturally protruding cheek bones, a fiery red lip and a black, wrapped head dress with horns jutting out on top.

And those cheekbones bear an uncanny resemblance to facial prosthetics worn by Lady Gaga last year. Perhaps coincidentally -- or perhaps the inspiration for Jolie's look altogether -- Gaga called the pointy cheeks she wore her "horns."

Even dressed as the self-proclaimed "Mistress of All Evil," Jolie, 37, remains impossibly striking.

Disney's live-action, 3-D fantasy film "Maleficent," due in theaters March 14, 2014, is an alternate retelling of the story of "Sleeping Beauty." Instead of Princess Aurora, the story focuses on the life of her nemesis Maleficent -- depicted in the 1959 animated Disney classic -- and what drove her to cast an evil spell.

All indications point to Maleficent being more sympathetic in this updated version -- or at least better understood.

The film also stars Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora, Juno Temple, Brenton Thwaites, Sharlto Copley, Miranda Richardson, and India Eisley as the young Maleficent.

"Maleficent" had been in pre-production for a few months when, according to People, Jolie, her now-fiancé Brad Pitt and their children took up temporary residence in England.
