Bradley Cooper, who plays a man recovering from a mental breakdown opposite Jennifer Lawrence in "Silver Linings Playbook," has already received nods from the Screen Actors Guild, Broadcast Film Critics, Independent Spirit, National Board of Review, and Hollywood Film Awards (he won the last two). On Thursday morning, he picked up yet another nomination, this time for a Golden Globe. The spotlight is on as he transforms into one of the leading men of Hollywood, and here are the most buzzworthy details about the handsome actor:

Most surprising? Cooper has a nearly forgotten marriage in his past. He and actress Jennifer Esposito dated for a year before they married in December 2006. But they split after just four months. "It just wasn't right," Cooper told Howard Stern in 2011. "It was just something that happened. The good thing is, we both realized it … sometimes you just realize it. It's interesting ... things happen!" Mysterious. But he maintains that he hasn't ruled out another marriage. "Making any declarative statement like that is a joke." (Esposito is currently embroiled in "ugliness" with CBS, claiming the network is suspending her from "Blue Bloods" because of her medical condition.)

Cooper's 10-year path to stardom has been studded with amazing leading ladies. One of his earliest roles was as Jake, the smoker who nearly lands a one-night stand with Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) in "Sex and the City." (Cooper's memory of that gig was learning how to drive stick shift  in Manhattan and hearing crowds scream for Parker.)

He co-starred with Vera Farmiga in the short-lived American adaptation "Touching Evil" (2004), had a recurring role in the J.J. Abrams vehicle "Alias," featuring Jennifer Garner; was married to Jennifer Connelly and having an affair with Scarlett Johansson in the movie "He's Just Not That Into You"; got to share a Razzie dishonor with Sandra Bullock in "All About Steve"; hooked up with Julia Roberts in "Valentine's Day"; and, of course, romanced Saldana and Lawrence.

His offscreen romantic ambitions have landed him in the tabloids plenty of times -- and doubtless helped him secure the honor of being named People's Sexiest Man Alive. These days, he's edging away from romances and toward more serious works (after filming "The Hangover III," of course), such as "The Elephant Man" on Broadway and a project about a Navy SEAL sniper .

"Silver Linings Playbook," a dysfunctional romantic comedy in which he plays a man who is back from eight months in a state institution intent on winning back his ex-wife (Brea Bree) -- has secured him the Actor-with-a-capital-A cred that he didn't quite score with the poorly reviewed literary-plagiarism drama "The Words." (That even had the distinction of opening on one of the worst box-office Fridays in four years.)

Then again, "The Words" started a three-month affair between Cooper and his co-star Zoe Saldana, before they broke it off in March. Though they seemed tense at the film's premiere, they were back together in time for the "Playbook" red carpet -- and even the Thanksgiving holidays with his family. Rumors are afoot that his mom wants a grandchild and has been "bonding" with Saldana. Perhaps Saldana will be by his side at this year's Golden Globes. Stay tuned for all the latest red-carpet coverage, and watch the ceremony on January 13, 2013.
