Awards season is in full swing, but do you really know everything about your favorite nominees? Well, we should start with the basics, like their real names!

Oscar-winning actress Dame Helen Mirren hasn't always been a dame, but she also hasn’t always been called Helen. The 67-year-old's real name is Ilyena Lydia Vasilienva Mironoff! That doesn't exactly slide off the tongue.

Check out more top contenders who use an alias now that they've hit it big in Hollywood.

  • Watch Claire Danes’ first Golden Globe win from 1995

Yahoo! Movies at Yahoo! Movies Golden Globes Blog1 yr ago

When she won Best Actress in a TV Drama at last night's Golden Globes, "Homeland" star Claire Danes said she was on the very same stage accepting a Globe when she was 15 years old. And she's right: Way back in ye olden times of 1995, Danes won the same award for her turn as angsty teen Angela Chase on the short-lived (but fondly-remembered) ABC drama "My So-Called Life." We managed to dig up her adorable acceptance speech from that year, her very first Golden Globe win, which you can watch right here (click to the 6:07 mark):

Now, as great as Danes was as Angela Chase, you might think it's kind of ridiculous that a 15-year-old won such a prestigious award... until you see who the other nominees were that year. Heather Locklear for "Melrose Place"? Angela Lansbury for Season 11 of "Murder, She Wrote"? "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman"??? Say what you want about the current state of TV, but based on these nominees, TV dramas have come a loooong way since the mid-'90s. So in hindsight, Danes was a very deserving winner indeed.

Ben Affleck got a double surprise at Sunday night’s Golden Globes when he took home a Best Picture prize as well as the award for Best Director, both for his Iran hostage drama “Argo.”

The 40-year-old may have been overlooked in the best director category at the Oscar nominations last week, but the film certainly seems to be making an impression on the award show circuit. Even Ben was shocked to receive a standing ovation from the crowded Globes ballroom.

  • How Jennifer Lopez handled her exes at the Golden Globes

Matt Donnelly at Yahoo! Movies Golden Globes Blog1 yr ago

Jennifer Lopez has taught us many a lesson: the joys of double-stick tape, what her love costs and, now, how to handle awkward moments like bumping into former lovers.

Sunday's Golden Globes telecast saw Lopez present best original song alongside actor Jason Statham, but run-ins with Ben Affleck and Diddy served as bookends for her glamorous night.

Around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Lopez was working the red carpet in her splash-making nude gown – chatting atop the "Entertainment Tonight" platform, while her dancer beau Casper Smart waited for her.

[Photos: Golden Globes Red Carpet Report Card]

omg! rolled into the ceremony alongside Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner – who nearly collided with Lopez and Smart at the top of the carpet. The respective couple’s saving grace? George Clooney.

In a moment of perfect timing, Clooney was stepping off the same platform with girlfriend Stacy Keibler and took the moment to introduce the women, avoiding a collision between Ben, Casper, and both Jennifers.

  • Kristin Wiig: Would she host the Golden Globes?

Matt Donnelly at Yahoo! Movies Golden Globes Blog1 yr ago

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were never going to fail as hosts for the 70th annual Golden Globe awards.

Both ladies, also nominees, are at the top of their game and didn’t miss a beat during Sunday’s broadcast. Their one potential mistake: asking Kristen Wiig to present.

Wiig, along with fellow “SNL” alum Will Ferrell, easily dominated the conversation both in the ballroom and throughout the evening at after parties thanks to their brilliant moment as presenters.

So could Kristin see herself taking over Amy and Tina’s duty one day?

“Oh man, people want that?” Kristin said when omg! asked her if she would be up for the task.

Yes Kristen. We do. Wiig actually bit her nails at the suggestion.

“That would be a lot—who knows? Tonight was very fun and I thought [Tina and Amy] did a great job,” Kristin responded.

    We weren’t satisfied.

“I don’t know man,” she responded. “I’ll come! How about that? I’ll show up.”

    It’s a date, Wiig.

  • Golden Globes: Pattinson, Gomez and winners celebrate

Matt Donnelly at Yahoo! Movies Golden Globes Blog1 yr ago

For a show turning 70, the Golden Globes can still get down.

Following Sunday’s Tina Fey and Amy Poehler-hosted broadcast, the crowd at Los Angeles’ Beverly Hilton dispersed from the grand ballroom and wreaked havoc in every corner of the famous venue. Given the show's mix of predictable winners and upsets, luminaries across the board scurried to their home networks or studio events – which guaranteed party-hopping as the night progressed.

Fey and Poehler headed up to NBC Universal’s fete to take what we can only imagine were excessive compliments, while the lobby of the Hilton was packed with A-listers making their rounds.

George Clooney, one of the evening’s biggest champs as producer on the Best Picture Drama winner “Argo,” entered InStyle magazine and Warner Bros. pictures’ post-event all smiles with girlfriend Stacey Keibler.

  • Five things the Oscars could learn from the Golden Globes

Catch Yahoo's complete coverage of the 71st Golden Globes, from pre-show to post-show, including all the highlights from the red carpet and the ceremony. Sunday, Jan. 12, 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, on Yahoo Movies.

Invite me! We'll alert you shortly before the Golden Globes starts.

Co-hostesses Tina Fey and Amy Poehler proved what we have been saying all along: it’s actually possible to have an entertaining awards show. They’ve raised the bar for the Academy Awards – and host Seth MacFarlane. Take note Oscars: it’s supposed to be entertaining, not a test of endurance! Here are a few lessons for the future:

Girl Power: There’s something about having two comediennes who can write their own material (sorry, Bruce Vilanch) that simply killed. I loved when they referred to President Bill Clinton as Mr. Hillary Clinton – or when the camera caught Poehler in George Clooney’s lap. When have we ever seen one of his actual girlfriends perched there?

  • What do the Golden Globe results mean for Oscar night?

Thelma Adams at Yahoo! Movies Golden Globes Blog1 yr ago

There’s been a lot of dish about the Golden Globes being the Academy Awards lite. But what if that conventional wisdom is just plain wrong? Tonight proved that the 85-member Hollywood Foreign Press Association may just be more on the ball than the 6,000-plus Academy members.

Who were the winners and losers – and how does that shape the race to the Oscars as the Academy members get down to their final voting between February 8th and 19th?

With only six weeks to go to the Oscars, the race is anything but sure. After tonight, “Django Unchained” and “Argo” are on the rise, while “Lincoln” has stumbled, along with “Silver Linings Playbook” and “Zero Dark Thirty.”
