Clark Gregg on His 'Avengers' Death and Rebirth
Clark Gregg was a respected character actor but not what you'd call a household name when he was recruited to play Agent Phil Coulson in "Iron Man." That small part blossomed over the course of the subsequent Marvel films "Iron Man 2" and "Thor," culminating in a major role in last summer's record-breaking hit "The Avengers." But, of course, Coulson died. End of story, right?
Well, this is a comic book universe we're talking about, and Gregg is getting resurrected for the upcoming TV spinoff called "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." He explains how fans helped bring him back to life, and shares the behind-the-scenes story of another career-changing surprise. When Gregg was brought back for “Iron Man 2” he was expecting a bit role. Then a new line was added: “I got to go, I got to go to New Mexico.” When the cameras cut Gregg asked, “What’s in New Mexico?” and he got a big surprise: “Oh, has no one spoken to you? Thor’s in New Mexico… you’re going to be in that!”
Gregg sat down with our own Ben Lyons to talk about his unlikely rise to fame in New York where his new film as an actor and director, "Trust Me," premiered during the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival. Gregg also opens up about working with wife Jennifer Grey (yes, he's married to Baby from "Dirty Dancing"), and his own experience with shady talent agents like he plays in his new movie.
