What's The Story
Carl Fredricksen, former balloon salesman, is pushing 80 and tired of life. His true love has passed away, leaving him alone and grumpy and shut away from the world. But when developers try to force him from his home, Carl has the last laugh. He launches his house into the air using thousands of balloons and sets off for South America to fulfill a promise to his late wife. What he hadn't bargained for was the eight-year-old chatterbox who happened to be stuck on his front porch when he lifted off?
Three Good Reasons
- 1With Monsters, Inc., director Pete Docter at the helm and Finding Nemo co-writer Bob Peterson contributing the script, this comic fantasy is a shoo-in to be Pixar's 10th straight hit.
- 2Haven't you always wanted to know what your dog was thinking? Among other characters, the movie features Dug, an outcast "nerd" dog with a computerized collar that translates his thoughts.
- 3Jordan Nagai, who voices chubby 8-year-old Russell, was only tagging along with his older brother while he auditioned for the role. Head to theaters to find out why the talkative 7-year-old stole the show.
Bet You Didn't Know
The fantastic landscapes Carl and Russell visit are inspired by the real thing. The "tepui" mesas in the Guayana highlands of South America are so isolated from their surroundings that they contain plant and animal life seen nowhere else. Many of these mesas are still unexplored by mankind.
