What's The Story

In the first-ever film based on a blog, we meet Julie Powell, a secretary who hits the big 3-0 feeling very unsatisfied with her life. As a way of spicing things up, she cracks open a copy of Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" and decides to cook all 524 recipes herself. The story of her quest is interwoven with depictions of Julia Child's own life in Paris in the 1940s and '50s. Though the two women never meet, they are clearly soul-sisters, and their stories are inspiring as well as delicious.

Three Good Reasons

  • 1The Meryl Streep renaissance continues! Her scrumptious performances in The Devil Wears Prada, Mamma Mia! and Doubt prove that Meryl is the next big thing (again!).
  • 2Writer/director Nora Ephron is the queen of chick flicks -- she's the one who brought us the unforgettable Sleepless in Seattle and When Harry Met Sally.
  • 3It's the perfect "dinner and a movie" movie for those who appreciate the art of fine cuisine.

Bet You Didn't Know

Julia Child was turned down for service in the U.S. Navy in 1941, because she was too tall (6'2"). At 5'6", Meryl Streep depended on camera angles and discretely placed boxes to measure up to her culinary counterpart. More about Julie & Julia on Yahoo! Movies
