  • If you've never watched a movie in a theater before then The Grand might seem impressive, but if you've been in a modern theater you realize The Grand sucks The screens are small, the sound system is sub par and the seating is kind of cramped...although the seats themselves are comfy. The only thing that makes The Grand grand are the movies they show. They show interesting, thought provoking and foreign films you just can't see anyplace else in the area...and it is a better experience than watching these films on dvd no matter how large your tv screen is.

  • Sound is awful, and they crank the heat to 90 degrees. Still, the only place within 50 miles to see "art house" (their word) movies.

  • It is a wonderful, intimate experience to watch a movie at the Grand. The Grand brings to us the wonderful, meaningful, often times enlightening movies we could not see without a theatre like the Grand. A wonderful experience everytime!! ps: the popcorn is good too!!

  • The Grand is Tacoma's 'Art house film' cinema and easily the best independant cinema in the area. Films include foreign films, indie films, Sundance winners, and are always worthy of watching. Often we have seen future blockbuster hits such as Little Miss Sunshine or Slum Dog Millionaire long before they were picked up by the cinemax circuit. Staff are friendly volunteers; the popcorn fresh and everything reasonably priced. Parking can be a problem. You have to pay for lot just south during the day, but evenings are free. Street parking can be limited for popular shows so go early.
