Parking is IMPOSSIBLE to find on weekend nights, and every night during holidays and school breaks. (Seriously, whoever designed the whole Short Pump Mall development gave absolutely no thought to traffic patterns and parking space!) But if you stick to matinees or other off-peak times, the theaters themselves are comfortable, with good sound. Very generic, but the location is convenient and there's plenty of shopping and dining around if you have to kill some time. I also like the large, covered entry way, which most other megaplexes around here don't have -- it's a great place to stand in line for tickets or wait for friends out of the rain.
Do yourself a favor and go during the weekday's when there is no riff-raff. As mentioned, trying to view a movie on the weekend is a lost cause to start. With the mischievous teens and "It's a joke" security, you'll be out-right P.O.'d once you've spent your $60 with your date. Teens disreguard the "no texting" rule and practilly intimidates the security staff in the process. The theatre is also out-dated! With the expanding influx of the west end with the median income to boot, Regal Short Pump is due for a major makeover, not to mention the "Ritz Carltons" price tag on the refreshments that'll make your after movie plans a little thin. Refreshment service is extremely slow so, if you want to actually see the beginning of the movie, make sure you get there 40 min before opening credits. Peace!
One of the snotty kids here spilled a drink on my puppy and then laughed about it,,,
It's a megaplex. Lit up like a 50's jukebox outside, mostly large and generic inside. It would ordinarily deserve a, maybe 3 and a 1/2 star rating, but the place itself is not the only factor. Expect nothing out of the norm, but I agree with an earlier review who said to go during the day. 2 major reasons for this: the traffic from mid-afternoon to 10pm is some of the worst around Richmond, and the kind of lost, entitled people who shop at the upscale, shopping theme-park that is Short Pump Mall will find a way to make it worse. Second reason: no flavor, just quantity over quality. This is red-carpet, bowtied teenager, 10 types of candy, 2nd-door-on-your-right, turn-off-your-cell-phone, American mini-mall multiplexing at it's most generic. Wait, there might be a third reason if you're over the age of 19 (20 in some states) because, on the weekends especially, High School kids storm this place like the beaches of Normandy. Ok, so if the place isn't the only factor: There's a decent sushi restaurant next to it (although a better, larger version of it can be found NE of it, in a nicer mini-mall) and maybe a small Greek restaurant (maybe not, it's been a while), bookstore around the corner, and huge outdoor mall behind it a 1/2 mile. Wal-something is across the street, and it's a major intersection for 1/3 of the working population of the city so traffic, parking, etc. gets worse later in the day and the worst later in the day over the holidays (so, for a couple months at the end of the year). More than your asked for: To be fair to this theater, there aren't many that are better in town: the Westhampton is an "artsy" theater that's run some great movies (No Country..., Fahrenheit) but if you don't pay to see foreign or indy films you may not be interested, 2 normal size screens but some old charm remains. The Byrd is all about even more of that old theater charm, a historic and beautiful theateer, a Richmond treasure that runs second-run movies (6 months+ old typically) but for only $2. The new Bowtie looks nice with the rebuilt Train Factory serving as it's massive new home. It's a multiplex that tries to be artsy, sells alcohol (can't take it in with you though), has exposed brick, pipes, traintracks, and yet, it's not much different from a multiplex (except the traffic, and parking is no problem at all).
Um well i go to this one...and is not that bad come on guys!
