  • A variety of screens, excellent choice of films - often the only place in Roanoke to see quality films, the best popcorn in town, within walking distance, and reasonably priced. The best all around movie going experience available this side of Charlottesville and Vinegar Hill. Long live the Grandin - get out and support it.

  • I watch a lot of movies. I have never walked out of a movie in my entire life before going to the Grandin. The picture quality was completely unacceptable. The lights in the main auditorium were too bright. The picture was washed out and it was easier to see the people in the audience and the bricks on the walls than it was the movie, particularly during the movie's frequent night scenes. I have never complained about theatre quality before, but after half an hour I got up and informed the staff the lights in the auditorium were too bright. They said the lights were fine. I asked for a refund. They said they only offered refunds for technical issues, and apparently "washed out picture" did not qualify as a technical problem. I paid $8.75 for a movie I did not get to watch. As much as I would like to support independent theatres, until the Grandin Theatre shows more respect for the motion pictures and the customers that pay its bills, it's not worth preserving.

  • indie and foreign films paved the picture highway............as they did for sound and picture quality. Thank you very much. The Grandin is a gem and should remain that way.

  • This theater is a landmark in Roanoke. It's a favorite place to go for many in the area. They show a lot independent movies you can't see in a usual multiplex theater. It has a lot of character as does the Grandin area.

  • If your thinking of going to this theater for a cute fuzzy fun time you might think again. I have not been there for awhile and I truly went with an open mind. For reference I went to see Star Trek. My first contact was with "Goth Girl" ticket taker. Someone should really have SOME personality to greet people. Once I got over the rudeness of the child in the booth I thought about the traditional movie snack time. I was so grossed out by the oil build up on the pop corn machine, I said to myself...let's skip that. The prices seemed reasonable but not if it means getting the things you don't want...ugh, one large popcorn-hold the bacteria please. The seats are noisy and uncomfortable and the sound was...well, not up to par. If my home surround sound system I bought from a box store can blow it away there's a problem. It was 2-D sound "enhanced" at best. The room was not that big so I was anticipating a true cinematic thrill. What I got was the urge to walk out. I'm not saying the Grandin should close...just update or stick to those cute little foreign and indie films whre quality of picture sound and comfort don't matter. Next time I'll go back to the chain cinema, as much as I hate the crouds it is a better cinematic display. Which is a shame, I really wanted to be a fan...I just can't accept the antique quality. Good luck staying open Grandin....I'll try back in a few more years, if your there.
