in a world of sterile movie complexes this place is a breathe of fresh air. Big, spacious, old world charm, good seats, big screen, super friendly staff and fabulous neighborhood. My only complaint is that the marque doesn't change often enough to allow my to watch a new film every week.
This is a Portland landmark that people should cherish and support. I will miss it when i return to live in San Francisco.
I was looking forward to the rennovation, but was highly disappointed to attend the Christmas Carol, advertised as 3D and to find a hand-lettered sign at the ticket counter that said it was NOT in 3D. Not much of an improvement over the old if the technology doesn't improve with the films. I watched the movie, which I was looking forward to, but without the nationally advertised 3D, it fell short. I am glad they made the seating better, but I would take old seats and better technology any day.
Nice theater, good worker bees ,its great that they redid the place BUT they put in the same lousy style of chairs and the hard place that is in the back of the seat ruins the comfort.
Should have gotten better seats? OR the manager needs to sit and watch a long movie and see how his butt feels!?
Anyhow its the only game in town and we live in Waldport so glad its here.

small update on my last review.
tickets can be bought in advanced just go to www.cinema21.com .
and they are trying a only 21 and older after 6pm (unless the show is listed as all ages on thier web site). because of bar access since march of 2009. but they state they will be seeing how it goes and may change this policy.
Clean and fairly well maintained. Screen is large and well maintained. Can be dangerous leaving the theater when crossing 101. Don't expect to use the internet to find out what is showing, often needing to wait two to three days after show begins to have it listed on the internet.
