Wonderful theatre...I love it! Should show some mainstream movies occasionally. More people will enjoy coming to this hidden jewel and help it survive economically .
What a jewel. I wish every film I went to see could be shown here. Parking ample. I only wish they would show a mainstream film once in a while, so that a wider audience can the the wonders of this venue.
Walking into the theatre was almost like walking back in time. The main foyer has a ceiling painted to look like the sky and it really feels like you're standing in an open air courtyard. Visiting the bathrooms in the basement gives the impression of descending into the catacombs. Ignore the small concession stand and pay attention to the art tiles, mosaics, stenciling, carved gargoyles, statuary and other artsy little touches that make this theatre authentic. You just don't see craftsmanship like that anymore. This is truly a vintage venue and one definitely worth visiting. I can't believe it took me this long to "discover" it.
Not only does it show movies, but i got to preform there along with 14 other colleges.Preforming there was one of the best experiances of my life and we put on a great show just before the organist came up from below to preform and then the show began, "IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE"!!!Haha, you would believe me either but i was also in the newspaper to represent my school...Go me!!!:3D
Go back in time - that what it is like and why the Tampa Theatre is my favorite place to see a movie - the ambiance alone is what makes it extra enjoyable. It's architectural style is a mixture of Mediterranean, including touches of Italian Renaissance, Byzantine, Spanish, Greek Revival, Baroque, and English Tudor, as so stated on the theatres' website. (www.tampatheatre.com) In addition to the arty films and concerts, they offer a tour of the theatre. I can't say enough about the beauty of this place. When you see a movie there you are also supporting the theatre as it is a not-for-profit I believe. See a movie or an event there at least once, it probably won't be your last.
